Ukraine Plans to Hit Zaporozhye NPP With Nuclear Waste Laden Missile - Energy Agency

Over the past months, Kiev has repeatedly targeted the nuclear facility - which is the biggest NPP in Europe - risking a major nuclear disaster.

"Today we received information that I am authorized to talk about... In the early hours of July 5, the Ukrainian Armed Forces will try to attack the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant using high-precision long-range means and unmanned kamikaze aircraft," Karchaa said on air at the Rossiya 24 broadcaster.

As a backup plan, Kiev also intends to use Tochka-U missile, loaded with radioactive waste removed from the South-Ukraine NPP on July 3, he added.

Ukraine’s latest accusation that Russia is plotting a “terrorist attack” on Europe’s largest nuclear power plant is merely an attempt to wage information war against Moscow, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said.

In an exclusive interview with RT on Monday, the diplomat dismissed the allegations surrounding the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, recently voiced by President Vladimir Zelensky and other top Ukrainian officials, as “nonsense.”

The town of Makeevka in Russia’s Donetsk People’s Republic came under intense shelling on Tuesday, according to the region’s acting head, Denis Pushilin. Ukrainian forces reportedly targeted residential districts, damaging multiple houses, as well as a school and a hospital complex.

At least two dozen people were injured in the strike, including two young children, according to preliminary data shared by Pushilin. “Late in the evening, the enemy carried out fierce strikes on residential areas and the hospital complex in the Chervonogvardeysky district of Makeevka,” the official wrote on Telegram.

The minister blasted Ukraine over putting Hungary’s OTP bank on what he called a "list of shame" by calling the reasons for such a move "outrageous" and "unacceptable."

"Our position is clear: until the OTP [bank] is removed from this list, Hungary will not greenlight any additional EU funding for weapon shipments to Ukraine," the minister said. The decision will cover not just the €500 million ($546 million) tranche of arms Budapest vetoed earlier but any further military assistance as well, he added.

PARIS (Sputnik) - The French authorities can shut down social networks if the situation in the country deteriorates, French President Emmanuel Macron said on Tuesday.

"We need to think about the issue of social media and applicable bans. And if the situation worsens, we perhaps need to be able to regulate and turn them off," Macron was quoted as saying by French broadcaster BFMTV.

However, the president added that this discussion should not be held "rashly."

China cancels visit by EU’s top diplomat

Beijing has not offered any explanation for the move

China has cancelled a planned visit by the EU’s foreign policy chief Josep Borrell, a spokesperson for the bloc announced on Tuesday. The diplomat’s trip was reportedly scheduled for next week.

“Unfortunately, we were informed by our Chinese counterparts that the envisaged dates next week are no longer possible and we must now look for alternatives,” spokesperson Nabila Massrali told Reuters in a written statement.

The IDF struck the Gaza Strip early Wednesday morning after five rockets were fired from the Strip toward the Sderot area in southern Israel on Tuesday night, just hours after the IDF withdrew its forces from Jenin.

All five rockets were intercepted by the Iron Dome. A house in Sderot was hit by shrapnel from one of the rockets, according to the Sderot Municipality. No injuries were reported.
